I want my kids to grow up feeling safe. They should be able to attend school or church or a concert or movie or mall without worrying about an emergency plan. We live in arguably the greatest country in the world and we can’t give our littlest citizens that peace of mind? I feel like I owe them an apology. ⠀

My heart breaks for Pittsburgh today. It’s always surreal to hear of mass shootings, but not really comprehend them totally because they are in some other town. This time, it’s our home.⠀

I grew up playing at the park right down the street from the synagogue. My first apartment with Marc was about a mile away. Chloe’s elementary school was around the corner. We have walked those streets and eaten in those restaurants and undoubtedly know someone who lost someone yesterday. It’s surreal and sad and sickening. And intolerable.⠀

I don’t have the answers. I don’t think there is an easy “fix”, but I do know that we are going to continue down this path unless we make some sort of change. As citizens of the United States, one of our greatest rights is the right to elect officials who represent our beliefs and voices. Please do not stand by and do nothing. Get out and vote for people who will help make a change. I’m begging you. Our children are depending on us. ⠀
