Really proud to be apart of the change happening in my industry and be a voice to help move along the conversation to prompt change .
Don’t know how many of you remember , Through my press run with @lauraharrier for #BlackkKlansMan movie, I used the time to tell a story through the hairstyles we created and used my platform to speak about the history of braids and the inspiration behind the hairstyles we chose . I’m really proud to help inspire and spark the conversation taking place in the November issue of @vogue . THANK YOU VOGUE !!! Stunning braids in the photo by @jembomb ???????? #notmywork

To say that braids are having a moment would be ahistorical–the hairstyle has been around on the African continent since 3,000 BC–but their recent ubiquity on runways and the red carpet is relatively new. Their current visibility in fashion circles coincides with a moment of political and cultural significance for black culture. "Once upon a time, black women were told that they had to get weaves, or cut their hair really short, or straighten it, to make it in Hollywood or in the workplace," says celebrity hairstylist @Lacy Redway. "But these days, women are embracing more of who they are." Read more in our November issue (on newsstands now). Photographed by @gstyles, styled by @katieburnettstylist, Vogue, November 2018
