As we collectively grieve for the innocent victims of the Tree of Life Massacre in Pittsburg we must also come to the uncomfortable realization we live in 2 Americas . One that is a beacon of hope and light to all nations , an example of hopeful future where people of all races and religions can build a better future with endless possibilities and free of fear . The other an angry ignorant country seething with hatred racially motivated Violence and manipulative politics that play on the worst qualities of human nature . Our nation is at a crossroads we can either take back the moral high ground where this type of heinous crime is unthinkable ; or disintegrate into a fallen empire where Jews and so many other racial and ethnic minorities that made this nation great can no longer feel at home . As a Proud American born in the US to Holocaust survivors I never thought I would see the day where one of my fellow countryman would walk into a synagogue and yell “ All Jews Must Die “ before indiscriminately slaughtering innocent people simply because they were Jews . I believed such acts were history lessons I learned in school or from my parents of times gone by and meant to make us appreciate the amazing life we had here in “America “ . Apparently history repeats itself and we are naive to think as Jews our success and acceptance in certain parts of this country make us safe . This is a sad chapter for all of us .
