Post 1/3: My name is Shamsiya and I'm 21 years old. I've just finished training as a health worker in Yola, northeast Nigeria. It is my first week working at Nana Asmau Health Centre. Here, every day we provide pregnant women, new mothers and babies with simple, lifesaving health services. Today I am taking over UNICEF’s Instagram account to show you our work. It was always my dream to work in health, to improve the health of my community, especially making sure new babies are born safely. Here I am with baby Shuraihat who is 9 months old. She was born here at Nana Asmau and is back to get her vaccinations. Community health work is the grassroots of health services. It means a lot to people here who can’t afford to go to the hospital.
