Today we have news in that another highly trained police officer has been arrested for illegal possession of 2 rhino horns, an unlicensed & illegal firearm (.458), ammunition and 3 hunting knives whilst fleeing from iMfolozi Game Reserve. Although details are still sketchy evidence suggests that some lengths were taken to cover this up from the media as the incident allegedly happened on the 11th of October. It was only after inquiry from a local news network that the police then issued a prepared statement stating that a policeman was arrested for rhino poaching. It’s really heart wrenching to think that the very people who are put in place and trained with tax payers money to protect our wildlife are the same ones exploiting it. How is it possible to stop this when the rot is so deeply entrenched. There are so many people risking their lives on a daily basis to fight this war only to find out that the enemy lies amongst them as well! Can’t tell a lie, it’s demoralising and makes one extremely angry that government doesn’t take a firm stance on this.
