The Department of Health and Human Services is spearheading efforts to legally define gender "on a biological basis that is clear, grounded in science, objective and administrable." As reported by the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ, "The agency’s proposed definition would define sex as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by the genitals that a person is born with, according to a draft reviewed by The Times. Any dispute about one’s sex would have to be clarified using genetic testing."
This is a blatant attack on trans, gender non-conforming, non-binary, genderqueer, and intersex people. It is hateful and ahistorical, disregarding the truth of people's lives, of the medical community, of science. Before even considering what's to come, I can't imagine the trauma of learning that the government is taking its most drastic action yet to erase you—please please please call @translifeline if you need to. Cis people, donate if you can—they offer microgrants to help with trans people's legal needs, like name changes and immigration documents.
