For whatever reason I was craving a Piña colada today and it got me to thinking… About 18 years ago I remember calling my mom over my lunch break and her telling me she was driving back from one of our hometown bars. She went to pick up a piña colada for my great aunt who was in hospice care. Virgin piña colada of course since it was carry out ? But that was my great aunt’s last request. She was always so measured and reserved, like women were supposed to be in her time and I LOVE that she finally gave herself permission to be free. And for her a Pina colada symbolized that freedom ❤️ RIP tia Lupita
Coincidentally a piña colada was also the first cocktail I ever made, I was about 8 years old when I made it but I’ll leave that story for another day :)
