GOOD Morning! As most of you already know every Sunday I donate my social media to my @yearsofliving team to talk about carbon pricing! This week's post is from Kylie Ford, a student at Fordham University in NYC. If you have a second, read our Sunday posts and get involved. Remember it’s up to YOU GUYS! “I grew up biking and hiking through the forests of Southeastern Pennsylvania. My youth gave me a love and respect for nature that has shaped my adult life so far. In many ways, I took for granted the formative role that nature played in my upbringing and my health. My education at Fordham has shown me just how un-typical this upbringing was. Many communities’ lack of access to green space affects not only their quality of life, but also their ability to breathe. Many cities lack adequate trees to purify the air from the smog resulting from vehicular and factory emissions. The smog in the air aggravates asthma in affected areas, intensifying symptoms and leading to asthma attacks. This reality was shocking to me—air pollution had always seemed like a far away problem. Unfortunately, it is a reality for many domestic and global communities, with real, human consequences.

I became involved in Our Climate because I respect the environment and the people who reside in it. Through carbon pricing, Our Climate and the Put a Price on It campaign seek to reduce carbon emissions, a major type of air pollution. Implementing carbon pricing would have positive effects on the local and global scale by reducing damage to the air that people breathe and the health of the planet.

Carbon pollution needs to be drastically reduced, and eventually phased out. As the report issued by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change makes clear, time is running out. We need to reduce carbon emissions now. Lack of action now will result in irreparable future damage in our lifetimes, and will give an undue burden to future generations. Carbon pricing is a much-needed step in the right direction towards the carbon neutral, renewable energy future.”
