After work last night I ran down to the nearby waterfront when I rounded the corner #thestatueofliberty came into view.. her green against the orange light was so stunning I was immediately overwhelmed with emotion. First with joy that that our great nation is represented by a woman who stands for Liberty! It made me proud to be a Liberal! I know that’s a dirty word in some circles but to me liberal means open outstretched hand ready to give a lift up, open mind ready to hear all sides, and open heart so all decisions are based in empathy kindness compassion and love. That’s what I see in this great Lady of our harbor...and her words that we have always honored mean more today than ever, and and are worth repeating ; “Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
