Rachel Feinstein, @chardefrancesco and me at the Park Avenue Armory where I was honored this evening “for my uncompromising artistry and spectacular showmanship” (their words not mine)! For close to two decades New York’s armorys have been my preferred venues for our @Marc Jacobs fashion shows. I have been to so many inspiring art exhibitions and installations (Paul McCarthy being my absolute favorite), bought extraordinary vintage art jewelry and sublime Art Deco furniture at shows held @parkavearmory This enormous and incredibly beautiful space has always inspired us twice a year as the place where our collection becomes a 9 minute piece of theatre. With our imagination the armory becomes the environment, the stage, and runway that we feel tells our seasonal story. The power of the space itself is so awe inspiring that one season we left it completely bare- not a single light, no music, or set, just 2 rows of folding chairs running from Lexington Avenue straight thru to a tableau vivant right down the armory’s steps onto Park Avenue. For our A/W 2009 collection my dear, great and always inspiring friend Rachel Feinstein designed a magnificent work of art set there for us. I am humbled to have had Rachel there with us at the armory to give her moving and beautiful account of our friendship over the years in the speech that she gave introducing me. Rachel the woman, the friend and the artist has been and continues to be a unique and endless source of joy and love, energy and inspiration. Thank you again my dear Rachel.
