A few years back I worked with @kurtmutchler (a senior editor for Science) on a story about the human brain for @ナショナルジオグラフィック. We were able to visit the Allen Institute for Brain Science in Seattle. Microsoft Co-Founder Paul Allen died at 65 from complications of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma today. One of richest men In the world Allen used his fortune as seed money for the #AllenInstitute of Brain Science pledging $100 million to the Seattle-based organization. Its inaugural project is the Allen Brain Atlas, a map of the human brain which will be made publicly accessible. The #BrainAtlas is a component of the loosely formed Human Cognome Project. The Allen Institute is dedicated to international research answering questions in #bioscience. The Institute is a recognized leader in large-scale research with a commitment to an open science model within its research institutes, the #AllenInstituteforBrainScience, and the Allen Institute for Cell Science.
