1 in 5 Americans suffer from a mental health condition. You are not alone. Half of all mental health illnesses start by the age of 14. My panic attacks started when I was in 10th grade; a side effect of Lyme disease that had attacked my brain and gone untreated. The anxiety came on quick and the depression to follow even quicker. You are not alone. When the physical symptoms of Lyme went my depression and panic stayed. I felt trapped in the dark spaces of my mind, too embarrassed to admit the pain I was in, but you are not alone. I am telling you my story not for sympathy but because the 15 year old girl who felt ashamed and guilty by her mind would want me to if it at all would help remove the stigma behind mental illness. There's hope. Find support groups in your community, visit a therapist or your local @namicommunicate
