NOAA's GOES-East satellite captured this view of Hurricane Michael as the storm made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida, ‪at around 1:30 p.m. ET‬. Life-threatening storm surge, hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall have already begun over the Florida Panhandle, according to the National Hurricane Center. Recent data from NOAA and the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 155 mph. Those hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the storm's center.

The hurricane center warns that those in the landfall area should shelter in place because hazardous winds will increase very quickly as the eye passes!
