Enrichment activities encourage Zoo animals to use their natural behaviors in novel ways. Scent-anointing is a natural behavior of coatis; Quinn & Ivy especially enjoy the smell of blue paint and will rub it all over their tails!
Our animal artists use non-toxic, water-based paint to create their masterpieces.

We went behind the scenes @スミソニアン国立動物園 Small Mammal House to meet white-nosed coati sisters Quinn and Ivy! Enrichment activities, like painting, encourage Zoo animals to use their natural behaviors in new and exciting ways, keeping them physically and mentally active. The animals, using non-toxic, water-based paint, create their masterpieces voluntarily, able to walk away from the activity at any time. We were beyond lucky that both coatis decided to create beautiful art while we watched!
