If you're worrying about how quickly & badly climate change is going to hit us (in 12 years or less!), since reading the coverage about the IPCC report - you may be asking 'what can I do to make a difference?'
.
Below are some big changes we all need to make if we have any hope of reducing the most severe impacts of climate change ??
.
We urgently need these energy-reducing actions to go mainstream and become our new normal. Humans are ingenious - we are capable of doing it, but the question is WILL we?
.
Please share to play a part in helping to make it happen...
.
(This list is intended as a summary of information I have read trying to understand what I can do personally to help combat climate change)
.
* Eat less meat & dairy
.
* Plan to have one less child
.
* Avoid air travel whenever possible
.
* On a daily basis make time to walk, cycle or use public transport
.
* Switch to a renewable energy supplier - such as @ecotricity
.
* Use less energy - insulate your house, wear layers, turn off appliances & technology
.
* Buy less 'stuff' - if you really need something choose quality items & clothes that are made to last
.
* Plan meals to avoid food waste/packaging waste & compost any unavoidable leftovers
.
* Shop local to support your local economy & reduce food miles
.
* Make time to learn vital skills such as growing your own fruit & veg, cooking from scratch at home, perhaps looking after chickens or bees so you become less reliant on 'the system' for food
.
* If you need a car, switch to electric as soon as feasible
.
* Consider installing solar panels or another renewable energy source
.
* Join local community groups - we will survive the rocky times ahead if we come together & support each other
.
* Spend less time working to earn money to pay for stuff that doesn't really make you happy - spend more time outdoors enjoying nature - especially with younger people - to inspire them to look after nature too
.
* Stop to re-frame your outlook. It's not logical to believe a global population of nearly 8 billion (and growing) can continue to consume at this rate indefinitely on a finite planet. We must learn to do
