After IS militants killed her family, she was captured, tortured and sexually assaulted while being made to live as a sex slave for IS militants. However, once, the captors forgot to lock the door and that's when Nadia escaped and has continued to fight for the other 6700 women who were captured with her and many others like them. She is a Yazidi activist fighting for the rights of women.
Nadia Murad has also worked to end sexual violence in no ordinary place. She works to end sexual violence in armed conflict zones with a Yazidi population. Nadia Murad became the co-recipient of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize bringing to light the plight of other women who were, and are, in her situation. She brings with her hope and courage, and I am in complete awe of her spirit. ??❤?
