September 29th 1998.
-Gordon Parks took the friggin photo
-Technically my 1st @XXl cover? Lol
-from touring in hip hop hard (especially living overseas 93-97) I never got to meet my peers, this is the day I met a lot of my peers for the first time from Wu/Black Moon/Run & them....when Rakim told Tariq he is one of his favorite MCs out—-man that right there was like...worth it all
-listening to Aquemini (released that morning) on the drive up & salty I didn’t come up w something as dope as Sspottieottiedopaliscious ever
-the buzz that Hard Knock Life (released that morn) could possibly put Jay in the position to be the new Biggy (“time will tell” ha haaaa)
-Tribe releasing The Love Movement that morn and I was so mad they took the original Mos Def intro off (“...they went to Africa and had to be inoculated!!!”)
-I went to The Hit Factory at 2pm and Mastered/Sequenced an album called Things Fall Apart feeling pretty pret-ty good.
-I wanted to finish sequencing in time to see if I could get to the Jay Z album release party, no big deal right? My boy told me like 8 blocks shut down on some presidential ish (“really? For Jay Z?” oh well....) best thing that coulda ever happened for me....I stayed behind and last min 11th hour magic I hooked up the Mo Beta Blues intro snippets that was LIGHT YEARS ahead of what I initially had planned for the album intro. NOW I felt like I had a banging album.
