So happy for @ナイル・ロジャース who I’ve known since I was a little boy. Nile was a friend of my mom’s in the 70’s when he played guitar for #SesameStreet and was in the band #NewYorkCity When I was 4 years old I was attacked by a Dog in #NYC at my moms friends apartment and I needed 160 stitches on my face... Nile would stay up all night and watch me so I wouldn’t rip my stitches while I was sleeping. When I was 6 Nile came to Miami Beach to see my mom and I and bought me a guitar as a gift. #Chic had just released Chic Le Freak and was on its way to sell 10 million records. The next year Nile came and bought me a bass guitar as a gift. Unfortunately I wasn’t musically inclined so when I was 8 years old Nile bought me a movie camera and from that moment on I knew I wanted to be a director. Nile would always invite me into the studio when he was producing a record. I watched him record Diana Ross; Upside Down, Sister Sledge; We are Family, Grace Jones; I’m not Perfect, Inxs, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Power Station, Steve Winwood’s Higher Love, Duran Duran; Notorious, David Bowie’s Let’s Dance, The B52’s; Love Shack, and many more. I met Bernard Edwards, Jason Cosaro, Phillipe Saisse, ALFA ANDERSON, Tony Thompson, and some of the best musicians in the world. The most memorable was when Nile invited me in the studio when he was producing Madonna’s second album. I was filming Nile and Madonna with the camera that he got me and I was annoying her by filming all the time. Ironically, many years later Madonna asked me to direct her video for #BeautifulStranger not knowing that I was that annoying kid filming her in the studio while recording #LikeAVirgin with Nile. We ended up winning best video at the @MTV awards that year and Nile saw @マドンナ on tv thanking me for directing her video. He called me the next day and said how amazing it was to hear Madonna thanking me. Nile has been a huge role model and inspiration for me as a kid and continues to be. Love you Nile.
