If you find yourself feeling a bit braver this week because of the testimony of a very brave survivor, I ask you to consider those who did NOT survive, and cannot give testimony. Channel some of this bravery into serving to END this incredibly triggering (to the point of numbing) EPIDEMIC of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Demand justice. Please call your state's representatives and tell them to revive and support Savanna's Act - introduced last fall by Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) ❤️ S.1942 Savanna's Act: (1) to clarify the responsibilities of Federal, State, Tribal, and local governments with respect to responding to cases of missing and murdered Indians;(2) to increase coordination and communication among Federal, State, Tribal, and local law enforcement agencies; (3) to empower Tribal governments with the resources and information necessary to effectively respond to cases of missing and murdered Indians; and (4) to increase the collection of data related to missing and murdered Indian women and the sharing of information among Federal, State, and Tribal officials responsible for responding to and investigating cases of missing and murdered Indians.❤️ This bill still sits with the Committee on Indian Affairs nearly a year after it has been introduced - it has not been brought to a vote, so that it may become law. Please. Use even a little flame of that fire in your heart to demand justice for these women. Don't forget Savanna. Don't forget Savanna's Act. Don't forget Indigenous Women.
