Here is our 2nd of #10featuredteachers ... Jessie! Here’s her story in her own words: “My name is Jessie McCain and I am a 2nd year special education teacher in rural Nebraska. I work with 3rd and 4th grade students with a wide range of abilities, struggles, and talents. The majority of my students have behavior disorders and/or emotional disturbances. In special education we work some of the most underserved populations, but they are the greatest people I’ve ever met. I am currently also in graduate school while teaching full time and enjoying my first pregnancy. I am working on my masters degree in behavior intervention to better be able to serve my students. In schools the focus is academics but with my students I know that until we can help them with their behavior and emotional struggles that academic growth will be hard to find. I want to give my students a more equipped room where they can take a break and find their calm.
