Happiness is: returning home after a month away to a sign (scrawled on a repurposed valentine) in the middle of the hallway that reads “folow THe AROS ”, a pile of string fashioned into a floppy arrow pointing into the kids’ bedroom, and then two excited kids leaping out from under blankets armed with maracas and dancing feet, all the while having a barking dog jumping all over me. After the dance/maracas show, there was “the greatest puppet show of ALL TIME” performed from my son’s top bunk. Then there were snuggles and kisses from Hannah, Hugs and kisses from Peter and Micah and licks in the face from Lucy.
Happiness is also: Having had an absolute blast shooting a movie with an incredible group of people, feeling tremendously valued and cared for while also telling a delightful story full of joy and depth. I LOVE my job, and I also LOVE coming home after a job well done.
And...Happiness is also this: My daughter screaming at her clothes and her breakfast and me all morning ????!! Nothing like a 3 year old to remind you that being number 1 on the call sheet for a few weeks doesn’t translate to a damn thing once you get home ???! I’ll be forever grateful to my family for teaching me humility, and for bringing my feet back to the ground whenever I start to float up into the clouds.
