I wanted to give a little more insight into how we handled injury recovery & coming back into training because I think it’s something no one really touches on bc we like to pretend everything is always great & PRs & what not.- — -So mid July we started with a muscle spasm in the rhomboid & tried to train through it as we have in the past. It got much worse from there to the point where I couldn’t dress myself or sit up out of bed. Did not get imaging done so nothing confirmed, but predicted strain/tear. - - - with the help of @redbeardedviking (pls come back), I took 3 full weeks of NO barbell (not that I could have done anything even if I wanted to). ALL accessory, reactivating, SSB squats, etc. It was slow & took until end of week 2 to even be able to support myself in a plank position. - -The army of beautiful people at North Orlando Spine Center also did some stim & ultrasound work during that time - -4 weeks post initial forced time off, we went back to empty bar - 60%. (Nothing from the ground, light front squats only)— -2nd week back to bar: 70ish% -3rd week: 75-83% -4th week: almost 85-90% -5 week (meet week): whatever body allows (I believe I hit just under 90% in the gym prior to being on stage) - - So was I in prime shape? HELL NO I felt VERY out of shape. Were my lifts beautiful? Absolutely not. Was I nervous & stressed because of barely hitting even my openers in training? YEP. BUT I am healthy and I had FUN. I am one who likes to always “push through” and this was a lesson that that is not always the best option. LONGEVITY is the goal, and injury & lack of patience throw that out the window. — I am grateful for everyone who helped guide me (& told me to STOP) & grateful to be able to get back into the gym and NOW be able to really push when it matters, as we prepare for Worlds. Let’s get fucking strong. Ps yes my coach actually hates me cc @unitedlifters
