North America | The powerful grizzly bear got its name from Lewis and Clark on their expedition west. They named it “grizzly” to mean both definitions of the word: golden and fear-inspiring. These awesome bears hibernate for five to seven months each year, except for the California grizzly because the climate there is too warm. Grizzly moms give birth during hibernation and use the rest of the time to rest up for spring.
