Introducing the Granular Convolver, a new instrument designed by Tatsuya Takahashi, Maximilian Rest of E-RM and Christoph Hohnerlein. Convolution, or the process of combining two distinct audio signals to bring out their shared frequencies, is a technique commonly used for spatial effects like reverb in music production. But never before has a granular synthesizer been capable of convolving sounds. The invention of the Granular Convolver opens up a world of creative possibilities, which will be tested for the first time by the 61 up-and-coming music makers taking part in this year’s Red Bull Music Academy in Berlin. #granularconvolver #granular #RBMA20
