Iconic American marathon runner, Katherine Switzer, who fought for women’s rights in sport, feels ageism is sport’s new problem.
“We are actually in to the next revolution, which is ageing,” Switzer told the Olympic Channel.
The 71-year-old said she is now “getting the same prejudice that I got 50 years ago as a woman.”
She continued to add that “They said to older people the same thing they said to us 50 years ago as women, you are too weak, you are too fragile you should slow down,"
As the population continues to get older and live longer, it’s important to continue inspiring this new generation of passionate runners.
