For most, the US Open Women’s final was a rollercoaster of emotions. For me, it brought back unsavory memories of competing at the highest level of sport. Memories of chastisement and shame for expressing emotion or passion.. unsolicited advances, criticism and policing of your body.. It’s hard for me to think about fencing without considering the ills of the sport that so closely mirror what we saw on Saturday.
