DELIVERANCE was a movie that so directly influenced THE GREY and as great as the movie was, the book was a thing of beauty but Burt Reynolds portrayal of Lewis, remains one of the great masculine performances in all of cinema. It was his best work but not my favorite...that would be SHARKYS MACHINE, which I absolutely adored and inspired the elevator shootout in SMOKIN ACES.
He was an indelible part of my childhood and someone who seemed imminently knowable and reachable and relatable...a quality lost amongst most contemporary leading men.

He was also a fierce proponent and advocate of the stunt community and gave Hal Needham his first directing gig.

RIP, Mr. Reynolds.
