Behind the scenes from @thetimmcgraw’s recording of his new original song “Gravity” that he co-wrote w Lori McKenna for Free Solo. One of the best things about making Free Solo was working with so many incredibly talented people - particularly on our sound / audio / music side...which every filmmaker will remind you is 50% of the film. @jimhurst, our sound man, rigged incredibly difficult and complex sound set ups for us throughout the production. We also got to work with Deborah Wallach our Sound Supervisor (A Beautiful Mind, Lost in Translation among others), Tom Fleischman our Sound Mixer (Wolf on Wall Street, Men in Black, Foxcatcher, The Aviator etc, won an Oscar for Hugo) and Marco Belltrami our Composer (Hurt Locker, Logan, Scream and many more). Check their IMDB’s if you’re curious about more of their work. And finally, Tim really came through for us with this original song for the film. It was such a pleasure to work with him and I think the song really captures Alex’s struggle to come to terms with his dream of free soloing El Cap, stepping beyond other people’s fears and finally his own.
