The last time I bore witness to @smashingpumpkins live in concert was at The Grand Ole Opry, all acoustic set, 08/05/1998 for the Adore tour. I was a camp counselor the summer after my freshman year in college. The head of the camp Mr. O gave me and three other counselors special permission to drive to Nashville and see the show. It was magic. It is a memory I hold close. The time before that I saw them in Biloxi, MS during the Mellon Collie tour. It was transcendent. I was a junior in high school seeing my Gods in the flesh. I snuck down to the main floor of the coliseum with two other friends. I watched in rapt silence. I’m not sure I moved or breathed for the entirety of the show. At the end I made my way down the center aisle. Corgan was standing on stage alone waving goodbye to the audience. The lights were up, I stood staring. Corgan turned, looked dead at me, smiled and waved. My hand and arm lifted, without my brain directing them to and waved back. Then Corgan turned and left the stage. It is my memory. It is one of pure joy. It is not hyperbole to say that this band has been a cornerstone of my life since the first time I saw the video for Cherub Rock on MTV in 1993. They have always been there for me. They are “my band.” They have seen me through the tears, laughter, love and hate. They will always be there for me. I can’t wait to share them with my daughters. Thank you @smashingpumpkins @jamesihaofficial
