We didn’t take home videos, but @michelauder captured some footage circa 1988, sent to me by @arnoldfriend6 just a few minutes ago. So why am I weeping? Something about having been a child, full of pure awe on a dinky ride and crying “whoaaa” to nobody in particular. Something about the safety of my father’s 80s business-casual armpit. Something about knowing everything I’d do and that would be done to me and that those things really aren’t that different and that my job is to protect this tiny girl and to try and honor the tiny girl inside everyone else. We don’t always get it right. We try again. Whoaaa.
