John McCain was an honorable, decent man. I rarely agreed with his politics but I never doubted his values. I will always remember how, during his presidential campaign, he corrected the woman who started trashing Obama. Having survived five years of torture in a Vietnamese POW camp, he made something significant of this life despite what would have had to be an inevitable, soul crushing post trauma. I had, and will always have, great respect for who he was as a man. May his dignity, intelligence, service to this country, and basic decency be a standard that all of us try our best to uphold. By any standard he was a star in the American sky. May his family be comforted, his spirit soar, and his soul be forever blessed. Amen.
