On Sunday, our reporter @mujmash joined a group of ordinary Afghans who are marching for peace. Their journey started in May, in Helmand Province. Since then they’ve walked through Taliban territory, braving roadside mines and dust storms, with a simple message: Stop the bloodletting. The Afghan war intensified with the American invasion in 2001. Civilians have borne the brunt of the most recent conflict. (Today, more than 2 dozen mortar rounds landed in Kabul as the Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani, was addressing the nation about a cease-fire he’d offered the Taliban.) The group marching for peace first walked about 400 miles to Kabul. Now they’re heading north another 300 miles, to Mazar-i-Sharif — and many of them are traveling in bare feet. On the road, they sometimes blast music to enliven the dull moments. On Sunday, when @mujmash took this video, 51-year-old Bakht Mohammad Armani couldn’t stop himself from dancing along.
