Been a while since I dug back into Aretha, like years between my last serious listen and hearing it now I was like uh she has no rival, the vulnerability, the throw away genius vocal inflections, the godmother of mother f’n soul, brand of heartbreak only a woman can relay, artist’s artist, woman’s heroine, originator, broke the mold, kicked it all off and lay the foundation for all who came after...anyways!
