When I was first approached to be a mentor on @dwtsjuniors I was really excited about the opportunity, but the actual experience so far has been even more rewarding than I could have imagined! Working with kids is a huge passion of mine - to be able to influence the young people who are the future of dance is so special. I hope to instill in them the discipline and skills that my best teachers and #DWTS have taught me and to help them grow and learn to express themselves on and off the dance floor. Dance has always been my greatest release and my safety net to show my true emotions without words, just movement to music. I love getting to see these kids experience that, too. As I’m getting older, I know that my role in the dance world is going to evolve (don’t worry - I’m not hanging up my shoes just yet!) and I can’t wait for you all to see what these kids can do. DWTS is more than a dance show, it changes peoples lives. I’ve witnessed it on all 20 seasons and with all 20 different partners I’ve danced with. To mentor these kids and see them grow into young adults has made my heart so full. They may have not started this show knowing who they are or want to be, but they are slowly coming into their own identity. To be a part of their growth has been truly amazing. These kids may not realize it yet, but this is more than winning a mirror ball, it’s life changing and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.
