Hi, I'm @sammie_scottie! My official title is Associate Social Media Editor but everyone (okay some...well, very few) knows me as the Twitter fingers for Teen Vogue. I went to Emory University outside of Atlanta, Georgia, where I initially chose to study sociology because I was interested in learning how white supremacy and other oppressive structures (capitalism, patriarchy, etc.) worked in tandem and how to dismantle them. Joke was on me because only two classes in the department offered that info! I ended up taking classes in the humanities focusing on black feminist thought, performance studies, and digital media/culture, and officially became a Media Studies major and African American Studies minor right before midterms senior year. I was actually part of the first class of students to graduate with a B.A. in Media Studies! I spent the summer before my freshman year of high school as a counselor-in-training at a day camp. Definitely the most challenging job I've ever had but I loved it so much that I went back the four following summers. Partly because I love working with young people but also because I met some of my greatest friends there. Shoutout to Camp BEST! Growing up, I was vaguely interested in being famous...doing what? I'm not sure. I mean, in second grade, I declared that I wanted to be a writer and later in high school, I wrote about my ~*future self*~ as a Teen Vogue editor...so I guess I'm living the dream! My advice to young(er) Sammie is, "girl go to sleep." A lot of problems in high school and college could've been solved by getting some rest and starting fresh the next hour or day. ⚡️ #HowIGotHere ?: @zak_krevitt
