After 18 months of serious and on-going negotiations with publishers, record companies, PRO’s, and the digital services— the songwriters were able to reach a CONSENSUS on legislation which would really help them including the release of millions in mechanical royalty income being held by the DSPs and give them oversight and transparency in connection with future mechanical royalty payments. This legislation, the Music Modernization Act, passed in Congress and the Senate Judiciary UNANIMOUSLY. Now, at the 11th hour, SESAC and the Harry Fox Agency (through their parent company Blackstone) use underhanded tactics to influence some key Republican Senators and convince them to add portions in our legislation that would only benefit them and would actually HURT SONGWRITERS. We cannot let this happen!! We want to work together with them to find common ground but not if it means enacting legislation that would be WORSE for songwriters than what the current law entails. #SesacwillkilltheMMA
