Back in the day...visiting the Rongbuk Monastary, the highest monastary in the world (16,000ft+) near the base of Everest on the Tibetan side. Milarepa, one of Tibetan Buddhism’s most famous monks, was rumored to have spent time in this area very near the monastary. We were there making an attempt on the direct north face of Everest, alpine style, no fixed ropes or supplemental oxygen. The base of the route / face starts at 20,000ft and tops out just over 29,000ft. So yes, we visited the Rongbuk to pay our respects in hopes of gaining some geniality from the cosmic order...
