Survivors are reeling after nine members of the same Indianapolis-area family were among the 17 people who died in a Missouri duck boat accident on July 19. The vehicle was caught in a violent storm on Table Rock Lake, then later capsized and sunk. "My heart is very heavy. Out of 11 of us, only two of us surviving—that’s me and my nephew," Tia Coleman, photographed here on July 21 after speaking to the media in Branson, Mo., told Fox59. "I lost all my children, I lost my husband, I lost my mother-in-law, I lost my father-in-law, I lost my uncle, I lost my sister-in-law—she was my sister—and I lost my nephew. I’m OK, but this is really hard." Officials have said it’s unclear whether passengers were wearing life jackets on board, and whether boat operators checked storm warnings before entering the water. The accident has reignited a long-standing debate over the safety of duck boats, which one lawyer called "death traps" in an interview with TIME. Read more on TIME.com.
