We remember where we are, what we were doing, the scents around us, who we are with when a certain song comes on: that heavenly voice that touches your soul like the softest touch from a favorite hand, that elusive fingerprint that never fades away. That’s art, and he was the artist. Chris, before he left us, reapplied that fingerprint on me again and again with our phone calls, our letters, when he would send me songs of what reminded us of he and Vicky, then, finally, face to face, eye to eye, voice to voice: the kindest words exchanged. I miss you so much, brother. Kathryn and I started with you in the room, singing to just us, directly it seemed. And my drunken beginnings with you (me drunk, you sober) too, then years later, the both of us reigning in heavenly sobriety. Those raw moments exposed to eventually be laughed with, giggled towards, and finally stepped over. You tripped, accidentally. You missed a step.
