"This is Nishuli. He’s a refugee living at the Lwiro Rehabilitation Center for Primates in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was torn away from his family and home, and forced to refuge elsewhere. Fortunately, the team at Lwiro welcomed him into their sanctuary. But it’s still no replacement for the vibrant landscape of Congo that Nishuli and his tribe called home. The national parks in Congo are some of the world’s most beautiful; they’re also some of the world’s most dangerous. Years of poaching, trafficking, and exotic animal trade have put chimpanzees, gorillas, elephants, giraffes, and more on the endangered species list. Just recently, the world’s last male Northern White rhino, Sudan, died in Kenya after being hunted to extinction. Animals like Sudan and Nishuli have been pushed out of their natural habitats and separated from their families, and every day, the prospect of safely returning to their homes and communities grows smaller and smaller." #MyCanonStory
