Hi I'm @gabebergado and you're watching the Disney Channel. Just kidding! I'm Teen Vogue's entertainment features editor. But before overseeing our stories about celebs relationship, representation in popular culture, and more, my first job ever was as a lifeguard at a water park that I worked at for two summers. Never had to save anyone since I was usually put on watching water at the Lazy River. But this one time a supervisor was testing the lifeguards with baby mannequins and I passed swimmingly. Best parts included the people, the tan, and getting to ride the water slides before the park opened. I studied journalism and gender studies at Northwestern University. Before college, I didn't have any journalism experience, just loved blogging on my Xanga, watching TV, and spending time online (which would eventually lead to my love for memes). My freshman year I actually thought about dropping out of journalism and doing something else because I was really struggling with even learning the basics of reporting such as approaching people for a news story, but I'm so glad I stuck it out. Eventually I started writing for the lifestyle and entertainment sections of the campus publication North by Northwestern. By the end of my junior year, I was elected the editor-in-chief. To make money, I had a couple of workstudy jobs including at the campus gym and various academic departments. If I had a piece of career advice for youngster Gabe, I'd tell him to just be more confident in your abilities. Growing up, I got along with most of my peers, but I always felt like my interests were too weird or I was too different from other people. And as I've gotten a bit older, I've realized that those things are what have helped me exceed — my first full time job out of college was literally to write about internet culture and memes. Stop comparing yourself to others and figure out what *you* want, because you're going to be most successful when you go after that. ⚡️ #HowIGotHere ?: @zak_krevitt
