Man. Some things in life are so great you take it for granted: #Thriller was something more akin to walking on the moon or your hometown team achieving a 3peat—yet never my top 10 lps. Same w/ #PurpleRain #TheWhiteAlbum, McD French Fries, Spielberg, Steve Martin as a comic actor, season 4-7 of #TheSimpsons, Obama (we feel it now), #TheMiseducationOfLaurynHill, Snoop Dogg, @LionelRitche & U2......this isn’t the cliche “flowers while here” post. I don’t rave about English Muffins & Fiji Water....but see what happens if you took it away from me for about 3 weeks (?????) I didn’t realize how much I missed (and liked) her as an artist & a craftsman until I saw this @WhitneyHouston doc. I been spewing #MUSTSEE to just about everything: (Atlanta Season 2/Sorry To Bother You/Blindspotting/BlackKklansman will most likely come here too)——this film belongs here too. I’ll be honest: i was in a different mindset age 15-35 with music. The pitch perfect #YamahaDX7 #MichaelMasser esque presentations turned me off (yes this from a guy who made that 600+ #YachtRock playlist last month)—-it’s cool for #Toto to give me all the diabetic sugar soul, but why did I scoff at “Didn’t We Almost Have It All” & “All At Once”? Back then I had problems w black artists being THIS pristine. I resented it. It represented us #SpeakingInCode. Musically I felt like Plymouth Rock was landing on us. It was unfair to judge her for that. Now I acknowledge how skillful & rare her craft was. I regret not acknowledging that from the gate. Back then i grumbled her greatness in that begrudging Steph Curry way. This film exposes layers upon shocking layer I never knew about. Floored man. We had a great one. Damn man.
