So proud of Jupiter Island and our extremely impressive approach/policy we take to protecting turtles that nest on our beaches. This season to date a total of 1,574 turtle nests have been identified on Jupiter Island. Of that total, there were 170 Leatherback nests. The Leatherback is the largest turtle on Earth, weighing up to 2240 +/-lbs or 1016 +/-kgs – the rough equivalent of a small Honda Civic and can dive to a max depth of over 4000 feet. While our beachfront is a very small percent of the total Florida coastline, it is an extremely active nesting location, attracting turtles because of the relatively undeveloped nature of our beachfront. And we plan on keeping it that way with 100% community effort. #proud #protect #nature
