The great thing about art is that there is latitude for interpretation and it can create conversations between people as well as make the individual viewer think. I can't speak for other artists but in my own work I'm trying to be fairly direct but I'm still frequently misinterpreted, though occasionally I'm told I'm being too obvious. It's my belief that art in public space is a very important alternative to advertising. When advertising is the only thing people are confronted with, they are programmed to think like spectators and consumers rather than creators and masters of their own destiny. - Shepard
