With my little angels, survivors of human-trafficking at Independence Beach in Cambodia. A small reminder of the price we pay for freedom, the price that has been paid by others and the price that we owe to ourselves to choose to pay so we may have independence from the invisible, yet, damning chains of fear. Fear immobilizes. I think of all the young men and women who have fault for the freedoms that our ?? forefathers strove to protect. I think of what it must have been like to wake up that next morning as our “flag ?? was still there” as I’m currently watching “bombs bursting in air.” But these are “bombs” ? of celebration not of terror; not of war; not of fear. So many around our world (and country) are not so fortunate. Fear permeates their daily lives. But, this is true of us, too. How often do I retreat into myself, into the “safety” of my aloneness to avoid what? Do I even know? Independence is not aloneness it is the freedom to choose it. It is the freedom to choose to choose. We forget this. We take it for granted. We often aren’t taught this fact to begin with. So today, on my nation’s birthday; the anniversary of the beginning of a New World - I challenge myself and I invite you to join me in taking a baby step (just a baby step) toward ourselves. Let’s choose to choose. And let’s stand united on behalf of those who don’t have the freedom we are so blessed to call our own. Today I choose me, I choose YOU, and I choose the fight for freedom. I will not go silently. I hope you’ll raise your voice with me. #EndSlavery of the body... and the mind.
