I grew up in Cincinnati Ohio as an only child with very limited social skills and more often than not a lack of interest in making and retaining friends. Perhaps it was because my dreams and passions were so disparate in comparison to my peers or maybe it was just because i so often felt weird and like an outcast that I kept to myself and sat in my room dreaming of being a “rock star” on stage and singing songs with people that felt a similar isolation to what I felt. Regardless of the reason I spent a great deal of time alone. In the summer of 2003 that all changed for me when my dad took me to Riverbend to attend my first ever @vanswarpedtour and my world exploded in a cacophony of music, attitude and acceptance. Warped gave me a home and a voice and forever changed me. I would lay in bed all year counting down the days until it was time to “go home” and be in a place that i truly felt like I belonged. Over the past 7 years I have been fortunate to play the festival both with my brothers in @blackveilbrides and as a solo artist and I will always consider it to be one of the greatest honors I have ever had bestowed upon me. I met my wife @thejulietsimms on warped tour and fell in love, I made lasting friendships on Warped that I cherish and I have grown exponentially as a person and artist on this tour. Each night when the festival is closed and the stages are being broken down I would often ride my bike through the grounds where the festival had stood that day and breathe in the smells, listen to the sounds and truly feel at home. Thank you @kevinlyman and everyone in Warped production, thank you to every person that’s helped us over the years and thank you to YOU for being there every year and giving me a place to belong.
