Big Mac belted his final home run of the first half of the ’98 season in the 7th inning off Royals rookie starter Glendon Rusch. The 472-foot blast was Mark’s fifth longest of the season as it cleared the upper deck seats just to the right of Big Mac Land.
With 37 home runs through the end of June, McGwire had tied Reggie Jackson’s 1969 record for most HRs before the All-Star break. The “Mac Attack” didn’t have much of a break as he travelled to Denver to take part in the Home Run Derby and hit third as the starting first baseman for the NL All-Star team. #BigMacFlashback
