#AllOverTheGuy is a 2001 #romanticcomedy that follows Eli, played by @ダン・ブカティンスキー (who also wrote the #film’s screenplay), and Tom, played by @リチャード・ルッコロ, two twenty-somethings thrown together by their best friends, Jackie, played by @sashaalexander SashaAlexander, and Brett, played by @theadamgoldberg in an attempt to start up their own romance. Every time I see All Over the Guy, I like it a little more. And I’ve seen it many times. The thing I like most about it is the film’s screenplay. With the things it has to say about relationships and love and people’s apprehensions to falling into it and the reasons people should forget those apprehensions all together, it still feels fresh and relevant today. It’s quick, quick-witted, and smart and it sounds like a 1940s, Howard Hawks or Billy Wilder #movie updated for a early 2000s audience. Bucatinsky has a writing style that I adore and it really helps to bring out solid performance from the actors. One of the other things I really like about this film is its approach to its #gay characters. There’re two couples here, one heterosexual and one #homosexual and, aside from the unavoidable defining characteristics of a gay relationship, they’re both treated equally. You could switch the couples’ storylines and they’d still work relatively well. There aren’t any derogatory stereotypes. Just an honest and intelligent exploration of a couple of couples trying to figure out relationships. It’s a #romcom where the main leads just so happen to be gay.
