#pride | ?:@boo_kay “I have struggled to find a way to express what Pride means to me. Little did I know I would find my inspiration from Aaron, a sales associate at Walmart.
While shopping in Aaron's department, I made a point to compliment his makeup, and we had a quick conversation about his style and RuPaul's Drag Race (because of course). As I continued shopping throughout the store, I couldn't stop thinking about how inspired I was by Aaron's fearlessness and authenticity. It takes a lot of courage to truly be yourself, but I found it particularly impressive when considering we were in a Walmart... in conservative Oklahoma. While continuing to run errands in the store, I debated if I should go back to Aaron's section and tell him how he inspired me. Finally, I decided that Aaron deserved to know his essence was the epitome of what I believe Pride represents. When I returned to his area, I told Aaron I appreciated him. Furthermore, we both applauded Walmart for supporting him. I asked Aaron if I could take his photo as I wanted to share with others how he had impacted me. Thankfully, Aaron obliged - and yet again, served the absolute most. Too often, we bypass telling people the things they do that inspire us, and in this moment, I felt compelled to change my narrative for once.
Aaron, thank you for being you. Keep living your best life - by doing so, you inspire others to do the same.
Walmart - thank you for supporting your LGBTQ associates and creating such a supportive environment. Please continue providing such commendable, necessary, and visible efforts such as these. And to all my fellow LGBTQ brothers and sisters, as well as supporting family/friends/allies, Happy Pride! No matter who you are or who you love, may your light shine bright. Please be the example you wish to see in the world. And know, that despite some recent fashion statements, we should REALLY CARE about equality for all as these principles are always on trend.”
