This is a special #Realestatethursday for me as I got to put on a hard hat, take a hoist for the first time, and see the bones of the new @richardmeierpartners building, @685firstavenue . This all black building is the first condo for Solow Building Company, and they will also be managing this incredible East River property. Let’s get to it. You all know from my television days, that I truly admire the works of Richard Meier. I have rolled down the hills at his home in East Hampton, explored his fluid gardens, interviewed him at his office, and visited his model museum a few times. @685firstavenue is such an exciting property. It has an unprecedented interplay of black and light. It’s also a paradox: from the outside it appears completely black and from the inside it is transparent. This 43 story building of layered black glass rises 460 feet above First Avenue. It has epic views of the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings, and the East River. One of its most distinguishing features is the clear glass cut out on the 28th and 29th floors that lights up at night.
